book project...

Images made for a recent project that will soon become a book. Some words (reluctantly)..

The British Army began land purchase on Salisbury Plain, the largest area of chalk grassland in North-West Europe, more than 100 years ago. The total area of the current estate is over 70,000 acres.

The Plain and Army presence there have been a part of my consciousness for some time now. At school as a teenager the thunderous artillery fire during 'defence training exercises' would shake the windows and doors in my house, and was audible 5 miles away.

It seemed natural for me to explore this mysterious landscape given the events of the last 10 years and the UK's involvement in conflict overseas.

These images document the first step in my examination of the site.
